This film is the story of a vocation and a life, that of Michel de Gigord who shares with us a beautiful guide for dialogue. We would like to suggest that before showing the video, you take a few minutes to give a few essential details of his life.
Man of faith and action, Fr.Michel de Gigord tells us the story of his vocation and his life. Priest of the Paris Missions to Foreigners, he spent more than 20 years in the Philippines, a country essentially Christian (95%). In 1982 he was sent to the Island of Mindanao, to the town of Marwai where 97% of the inhabitants are Muslims.
In an extremely complicated and violent situation, where the formidable dictatorship of President Marcos was still in place, he increased the number of contacts and initiatives bringing Muslims and Christians closer together. As a result he found himself facing staunch enemies. Threatened with death several times he was kidnapped twice.
Forced to leave Marawi, but reinforced in his desire for dialogue, he continued the work he began in his new town of Iligan.
In 1992 he accepted the appointment of secretary of the Episcopal Commission for Inter-religious Dialogue in the Philippines and started to put into place conferences and inter-religious dialogue groups in different towns throughout the Philippines. From this dialogue was born many new initatives inviting Christians and Muslims to pray and act together.
On returning to France in July 2001 in service of the Diocese of Dijon, he continued this work of constructing inter-religious dialogue. Fr. Michel de Gigord shares with us in this film not only all the ambiguites, difficulties, and joys found in the course of such work but also the essential points of a real dialogue which allows us to truly meet and know another in love and with all their difference.
The essential points of dialogue;
to meeting another person in love and in all their difference.
