Coventry Cathedral, in the heart of England, is a powerful symbol of reconciliation and hope. Destroyed by German bombing in 1940, it was rebuilt next to the ruins that remain in the open air. It is now a hub for all those around the world who would like to receive the ‘ministry of reconciliation’ between people, countries and churches.

Thanks to Coventry, we met a Northern Ireland peace negotiator, a former hostage in Lebanon who 20 years later sees his kidnappers, a Canadian Anglican priest whose church is involved in the work of truth and reconciliation with the ‘first nations’ in his country and a sculptor from California who unveils the work inspired by the place.A film that calls us to be reconciled so that we, in our turn, can be reconcilers.

Through this film, we understand that reconciliation is the creative transformation of a situation that seems hopeless to a situation where life flourishes. Thanks to the Holy Spirit, the spirit of creativity par excellence, we can become reconcilers, because ‘reconciliation is the Gospel!’. Jesus commands us to love more than our neighbour, he commands us to love our enemy. This is only possible when we experience God's unconditional love and forgiveness.

This film helps us to discover, from the inside, the Anglican Communion’s ministry of reconciliation, while the Catholic Church concludes the ‘year of mercy’, which has borne many fruits.

This film is made by the Chemin Neuf Community for the International Ecumenical Fraternity, 'Net for God'.

COVENTRY LITANY OF RECONCILIATION

For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God. (Romans 3:23)

The hatred which divides nation from nation, race from race, class from class,

Father Forgive.

The covetous desires of people and nations to possess what is not their own,

Father Forgive.

The greed which exploits the work of human hands and lays waste the earth,

Father Forgive.

Our envy of the welfare and happiness of others,

Father Forgive.

Our indifference to the plight of the imprisoned, the homeless, the refugee,

Father Forgive.

The lust which dishonours the bodies of men, women and children,

Father Forgive.

The pride which leads us to trust in ourselves and not in God,

Father Forgive.

Be kind to one another, tender hearted, forgiving one another, as God in Christ forgave you (Ephesians 4:32)

Parola del mese

"Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here! All this is from God, who reconciled us to himself through Christ and gave us the ministry of reconciliation: that God was reconciling the world to himself in Christ, not counting people’s sins against them. And he has committed to us the message of reconciliation."

2 Corinthians 5 : 17-19
