Sports have the unique ability to be a universal language, capable of gathering people together above and beyond generational, cultural, and religious differences, like during big sporting events such as the Olympic Games and the World Cup. They carry strong values, set challenges, and can also lead to an authentic religious experience. In this film, high-level athletes from several countries and sporting disciplines, coming from different Christian denominations, witness to the way in which the values of faith and sports can meet and mutually enrich one another.

This month, let us ask for the grace to receive this spirit of a champion to which the Lord is calling us: a wide open, generous heart to pray for all the people that surround us, an attitude that honours God in all the situations of our daily life and zeal for sharing the Good News of Jesus Christ in the world.

“Do you not know that in a race all the runners run,

but only one receives the prize? So run that you may obtain it.

Every athlete exercises self-control in all things.

They do it to receive a perishable wreath, but we an imperishable.”
