The Great Lakes region of Central Africa has been particularly marked by the tragic events between Hutu and Tutsi in Rwanda and Burundi. These countries have been the scene of inter-ethnic and political massacres that have claimed millions of lives over the past decades.
The film “Imidiho y’amahoro” (the melodies of peace) illustrates in an unprecedented way how art is today a driver for reconciliation and unity, with song, dance and theatre making it possible to heal hearts broken by the dramas of the past. It is after the different war cycles that several artists from the region have committed themselves to encouraging dialogue and forgiveness, thanks to their faith. Their messages raise questions and might even disturb us, but above all they bear witness to a resilience and a possible future.
This film was shot during the summer of 2022 in Rwanda, Burundi and Uganda by a team that went to meet several actors of peace to capture in images an intergenerational commitment that builds bridges of unity.<\/p>\n
